<p>Being a Physiotherapist who treats back pain for a living I certainly recommend learning Pilates for managing back pain. I manage my own back pain with these exercises and have done for 30  years. I was  18 yo when I ruptured a disc in my lower back, I was told to never rider a horse again or ever play sport. i was told to have a double level fusion on my spine and live a sedentary life.</p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t do any or that.</p>
<p>I designed a simple effective easy to follow exercise routine that I still follow everyday for a pain free lifestyle.</p>
<p>I have had episodes of pain but I have always recovered doing these exercises. I have a 5 minute routine at the end of the day and I practice core crunches all day everyday. This keeps my spine stable and secure and pain free.</p>

The importance of core stability cannot be emphasized enough for managing back pain.</p>
<p><strong>Why is Pilates so Valuable for Back Pain</strong></p>
<p>Because Pilates exercises strengthen the core and the core holds the back joints stable while we move. Pilates is the best routine for exercising core stability and a strong core is the single most valuable function the body can have to control lower back pain. The core consists of one major muscle, the Transverse Abdominal Muscle. This muscle has fibers that run around all the way around the belly and lower back. It is connected to the ribs and spine in the back and the pelvis and the pubic bone in front. When it is weak the tummy will be loose and have that pot tummy look. When it is weak the lower back joints are not stable and this will cause back pain.</p>
<p><a href="http://mypilatestraining.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/881338-back-massage-effleurage.jpg"><img title="881338-back-massage-effleurage" src="http://mypilatestraining.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/881338-back-massage-effleurage.jpg" alt="" width="110" height="83" /></a>When the Transverse Abdominal muscle is strong the tummy is flat, the waist line is smaller and the lumbar joints are stable. Stability will control movement in the spinal joints therefore keeping the lower back protected from pain. When the lower back is unstable, the way we move doing our daily activities results in micro movements, repetitively. We are resilient enough to tolerate many episodes but eventually the many micro movement&#8217;s results in either an increasing pain from niggling to severe or a sudden onset of severe pain with a minor incident. This incident can be as simple as spitting toothpaste out, or leaning over to pick up the salt shaker.</p>
<p><strong> Pilates Must be Learned for Success</strong></p>
<p>Pilates exercises for back pain must be taught by a Physiotherapist. I treat so many people who suffer lower back pain and with every patient I teach them how to find, initiate, test and train the deep core muscle. I teach all of this to every person in order for them to learn how to function with a strong core muscle. I believe every person must learn pure Pilates and not just follow a leader in a class every week</p>
<p>Back pain sufferers need to be assessed by a Physiotherapist before they start on a vigorous exercise program. Any exercise program should include training in pure Pilates and if it doesn&#8217;t then it is lacking in information. Every exercise should include using the core muscles; they should not be neglected in any person performing any exercise.</p>
<p>To finish up this article I totally recommend Pilates exercises for back pain, but I recommend being assessed by a Physiotherapist and I certainly recommend you learn how to use your deep Transverse Abdominal muscle so you can function with core stability not just use it in a class. This knowledge will give you the best pain control for your lower back you can have. <p>My Doctor  told me to never to ride a horse again, never exercise and settle into a sedentary life style and live happily ever after. I never went back to That Doctor Again&#8230;&#8230;But I was not to be defeated&#8230;I was not going to accept what my life was to become.</p>
<p>I started tightening my tummy and stretching my back and doing core crunches everyday. I soon became pain free I went onto ride at International level as a three day event rider and I did have 3 children and I did recover and now I can Show you how to as well.</p>
<p>I had a diastasis recti of the abdominals and I was diagnosed with a disc prolapse, but I recovered.</p>

If a person has spent many $100 on classes and still has poor knowledge in the use of their core muscles then the money has been wasted.</p>
<p>Many people in my experience have done this, thinking they are doing the right thing and that is attending Pilates&#8217; classes. Many people have OK results while attending but once they run out of money or enthusiasm they quit. The use of their core has not been established by teaching pure Pilates so many people end up returning to the same unfit state they started. A waste of time and money and certainly an angry person.</p>
<p>To stop this I certainly recommend learning Pure Pilates and the use of core stability only by following a DVD or a class lead by a Physiotherapist, The teaching is based on professional knowledge and a Degree in Physiotherapy.</p>

<p>The Transverse Abdominal Muscle is the prime mover in stabilizing the lumbar spine. It is responsible for controlling movement and hence pain in the lower back. The transverse abdominal muscle when tight and controlled becomes functional. The benefits of the transverse abdominal muscle are many. When it is used consistently and correctly it will flatten your tummy, align your spine and control your back pain. The use of this muscle must be taught by an expert and it must be understood to actually get the maximum benefits from using it.</p>

<p>This muscle is also known as the Transversus Abdominis muscle. So if you see these two names used together or separately then don&#8217;t think they are talking about different muscles, they are one and the same. This muscle is the key stabilizer for people to function during daily activities. It is the single most important muscle for every human to have control of. Every person needs good core strength to perform their daily activities. The transverse abdominal muscle will do this if trained properly. It is not enough to just attend an exercise or Pilates class to think you are working this muscle. You must know you are or you are not.</p>
<p><strong>A Quick Test</strong><br />
Breathe in through your nose (not a big breath). Now blow slowly and gently out through pursed lips. Do this 4-5 times.</p>
<p>Now as you do the blow parts, draw your belly button and the muscle below your belly button in toward your spine. Keep blowing and keep tightening until you need to breathe in. Did you feel the tightening through your lower tummy? If you didn&#8217;t then keep practicing the pattern as worded and focus on the muscle not the breath.</p>
<p>You will also feel your pelvic floor tighten if you have it right. If you got this then over the period of your day practice this little muscle crunch of the Transverse abdominal muscle. For the muscle to be trained and become functional this is the first step. That is you can feel it and actually tighten it on command and then progress on to train it to be strong and functional.</p>
<p>Training the function of the Transverse abdominal muscle must be taught by and expert though, don&#8217;t think just any exercise class will do it for you.</p>
<p>To have a strong functional core means a better posture, stronger muscle tone generally and certainly pain control in the lower back. The benefits of this training are many explore your core and enjoy.</p>

<p>Pilates exercises have become the most popular exercise routine for posture, fitness and certainly to control lower back pain. The importance of core stability cannot be emphasized enough for managing back pain.</p>
<p><strong>Why is Pilates so Valuable for Back Pain</strong></p>
<p>Because Pilates exercises strengthen the core and the core holds the back joints stable while we move. Pilates is the best routine for exercising core stability and a strong core is the single most valuable function the body can have to control lower back pain. The core consists of one major muscle, the Transverse Abdominal Muscle. This muscle has fibers that run around all the way around the belly and lower back. It is connected to the ribs and spine in the back and the pelvis and the pubic bone in front. When it is weak the tummy will be loose and have that pot tummy look. When it is weak the lower back joints are not stable and this will cause back pain.</p>
<p><a href="http://mypilatestraining.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/881338-back-massage-effleurage.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-275" title="881338-back-massage-effleurage" src="http://mypilatestraining.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/881338-back-massage-effleurage.jpg" alt="" width="110" height="83" /></a>When the Transverse Abdominal muscle is strong the tummy is flat, the waist line is smaller and the lumbar joints are stable. Stability will control movement in the spinal joints therefore keeping the lower back protected from pain. When the lower back is unstable, the way we move doing our daily activities results in micro movements, repetitively. We are resilient enough to tolerate many episodes but eventually the many micro movement&#8217;s results in either an increasing pain from niggling to severe or a sudden onset of severe pain with a minor incident. This incident can be as simple as spitting toothpaste out, or leaning over to pick up the salt shaker.</p>
<p><strong> Pilates Must be Learned for Success</strong></p>
<p>Pilates exercises for back pain must be taught by a Physiotherapist. I treat so many people who suffer lower back pain and with every patient I teach them how to find, initiate, test and train the deep core muscle. I teach all of this to every person in order for them to learn how to function with a strong core muscle. I believe every person must learn pure Pilates and not just follow a leader in a class every week</p>
<p>Back pain sufferers need to be assessed by a Physiotherapist before they start on a vigorous exercise program. Any exercise program should include training in pure Pilates and if it doesn&#8217;t then it is lacking in information. Every exercise should include using the core muscles; they should not be neglected in any person performing any exercise.</p>
<p>To finish up this article I totally recommend Pilates exercises for back pain, but I recommend being assessed by a Physiotherapist and I certainly recommend you learn how to use your deep Transverse Abdominal muscle so you can function with core stability not just use it in a class. This knowledge will give you the best pain control for your lower back you can have. <p>Core strength is the absolute aim of Pilates exercise. The core muscles are the deepest  muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and performing, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the postural  muscles of the spine to support the joints of the spine and all movement.</p>
<p>As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire posture, starting at the spine. This is one of the ways Pilates helps people control back pain and posture related  pain. When the lower lumber joints are  properly stabilized, pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move freely and efficiently. The loading on the discs is minimized.</p>
